Shad the Destroyer, or The Shadow Lord, or Realm Breaker, is the main antagonist of Minecraft Diaries. He was once one of the Divine Warriors, as well as the lover of the Lady Irene before being betrayed and plotted against by his own comrades. After years of fighting between the Divine Warriors, he was defeated and locked away in the Nether in a weakened form titled the "Shadow Lord" where he remained for many years.

Biography[]

Nicknamed "Shadow" by scared villagers on account that they had never seen his face, the villagers believed Shad brought plague and destruction to their crops and had been dealing with him for the past two years. The villagers warned Irene that the man has magicks just as powerful as her and to not confront him. Irene began her hunt in the forest, then was ambushed by Shad. They realized they were both blessed with powers from the gods after a confrontation. Irene admits she's glad she's no longer alone while Shad is furious, as he is feared and hated. Irene begins to stay in the nearby village to keep up their rivalry.^[1]

One day, Irene discovered Shad injured in the forest. Using all of her remaining energy, she healed him with her magicks. Holding her collapsed in his arms, Shad decided to take her back to his home to let her rest.^[2]

Afterwards, they became lovers. This love led to confrontations with Esmund, who also loved Irene. The two fought constantly over her until Irene eventually settled with Shad and birthed their daughter.

After some time, Irene bestowed him the relic of the Destroyer, on account for she trusted no one else to take care of the responsibility. She also granted him immortality along with the other Divine Warriors. However, Shad later learned that Irene killed their daughter to forge his relic, with her having given up the ability to love in order to do so. The other Divine Warriors blamed Shad for Irene not being able to love anymore and plotted to kill him.When Shad discovered their plot, he had already become twisted from Irene betraying him and transformed into the Shadow Lord.

To prevent more fighting, Irene locked him away in multiple realms, which he learned to free himself from, until the final battle in the Irene Dimension. He was defeated and locked away in the Nether, his physical form shattered, and his relic stripped away from him.

Sometime after his defeat, he caused the war between the Wyverns and humans, hoping to use the Wyverns rage against humanity, until a woman (most likely Irene) communed with the Wyverns, explaining the truth behind the war.

He then created the Shadow Knights and declared himself the Shadow King. They originated from deceased individuals that he handpicked himself, such as guards and lords. The Shadow Knights worshiped him as a great, honorable leader and worked under him, trying to bring him back to full power.

Shad first encountered Irene's modern incarnation, Aphmau, in the Nether as a guard over the wolf pupKiva. But he is easily defeated by her.

He encounters Aphmau again when sheis trying to rescue theChicken Shamanand is once again fairly easily defeated. Later on, a Shadow Knightopens the Portal to the Nether to get to The Shadow Lord.

He had not gained a physical body again until he took refuge in Aaron’s body about 3 years after his death.

3 years after claiming Aaron’s body as his own, he emerged from the Nether when he spotted Irene/Aphmau fleeing from him. There, in the Overworld, he sensed Alina, Aaron’s daughter and demanded Aphmau to hand her over, due to the fact she had the last remaining piece of his relic. When he returned to the Nether, he sent Gene to kill Zane for stealing a fragment of his essence.

Later, Shad decided to return to the Overworld to scan the area and was able to sense Aphmau in Skystead, where he found her spying on Hailey. He laughed and mocked her and they proceeded to fight, with Aphmau managing to run away.

He found her again almost instantly, this time, mocking at how cowardly Irene appeared to be, while Aphmau tried to deny the fact that she was Irene. While mocking her, he changed his voice to that of Aaron’s to try and manipulate her, but she saw through it just in time and managed to escape. Despite this, Shad still laughed at how she had fallen for his trick.

His time expired in the Overworld, and he returned to the Nether, where he discovered Gene had failed him, sending him to the torture chamber. Shad tried to meditate and confront Aaron, who had held back his body from killing Aphmau in their prior fight, but Aaron was determined to fight for his body back. All the while, his own voice did not return.

When Aphmau was possessed by Irene, Shad sensed it and smiled wickedly.

MyStreet: When Angels Fall[]

The following events were revealed in MyStreet in a series of flashbacks and time skips never present in Minecraft Diaries.

Eventually, Shad managed to kidnap Alina and bring her to the Celestial Cannon, intending to spite Aphmau by turning Alina into a new relic for himself to wield. After an unseen fight, Shad was most likely defeated for good.

Judgement[]

Many years later, in "End of a Lifetime", Shad, now known as Judgement, became the gatekeeper of the gates to the afterlife. He has moved on from his malicious nature and even sees Irene and Aphmau (Minecraft Diaries) as separate people. When Aphmau finally died and was sent to him to be judged, he commented that Irene faced judgement for her crimes long ago. However, he declared Aphmau's actions of going against the natural order and saving another Aaron from passing through the gates to be far worse. Though she revealed that she was ready to face any judgement that stood before her, Shad opened the gates, revealing that he won't pass down judgement to her, all while telling her to find out on her own.

Sometime after, Aphmau (MyStreet) exited the gates, while Shad looked on. After she left, a little girl walked out of the gate, telling Shad that he could be with his family now. This little girl was implied to be Lady Irene and Shad's child, who was turned into Shad's relic by Irene. He then removed his hood, declaring that he, Irene, and their family could finally rest. He went with his daughter inside the gates, closing them behind him.

This act of wisdom finally redeemed Shad, whose long-lasting soul was sent to rest in the afterlife, alongside his family.

Personality[]

Shad seems to have had a romantic interest in Irene. He later claimed he hated Aphmau because of the relic she (Irene) gave him, wanting to take away everything she cared for and watch her suffer. He is a controlling, angry Shadow Knight. Yet he wasn't always like this, he used to be Irene's most trusted friend, to the point where she would trust him with her life, this changed when Lady Irene turned his child into relic.

He does not take failure so easily, especially towards his Shadow Knights. When Gene decided to toy with his brother instead of finding Zane, Shad tossed him into a wall and sent him to the torture chamber, also disappointed that Gene didn't even manage to kill Dante.

• The name Shad is an English baby name. In English, the meaning of the name Shad is "Biblical Shadrach"; one of three young Hebrew men who survived being cast into a fiery furnace. This may be a reference to why Shad is the Shadow Lord in the nether.
• He is referred to as "Weakened Shadow Of The King" in Season 1.
• It is likely that the little girl who called him daddy in MyStreet Episode "End of a Lifetime" was actually the daughter of Irene and Shad, who got sacrificed and turned into a relic. In the credits, she is referred to as 'Their Daughter.'
• The title, "Realm Breaker" could mean that the Relic from MyStreet which was also known as the Realm Breaker belonged once to Shad himself, which is how Shad broke all the Realms that Irene put him into.
