Peppermint Chocolate-Covered OREOs

If you’re by chance feeling a bit of holiday overwhelm (I’m not the only one, right?), or just looking for a quick and easy last minute treat, allow me to introduce to you the easiest, most festive little no-bake Christmas cookie: peppermint chocolate-covered Oreos,

One part cookie, one part candy, and entirely decadent and delicious, these chocolate dipped sandwich cookies are nearly foolproof to make (even with little ones), and perfect for edible gifting. Eleventh hour, or not 😉

What You’ll Love About These Minty Chocolate Dipped Oreos:

Let’s start with the fact that only three simple ingredients (!) and about 30 minutes stand between you and these indulgent Christmas cookies.

First, you’ll need a couple dozen chocolate sandwich cookies. While Oreo’s are the classic choice, I also love using Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe Joe’s, which add even more minty flavor!

Then you can choose white, milk, or semisweet chocolate for dipping. White chocolate is especially festive, but flavor-wise, I’m partial to super dark chocolate with some natural bitterness to complement the richness of the Oreo filling. I often end up making a mix, so everyone can pick their favorite combination. And finally, the finishing touch: some crushed candy canes or peppermint candies to sprinkle on top.

Yep, that’s it.

It’ll take about half an hour to dip the cookies and then wait for the chocolate to set. That leaves lots of time for playing in the snow, steamy mugs of hot cocoa, wrapping presents, and cheesy Christmas movies. Or maybe just making more cookies… Happy baking!!

Description

Quick and easy, 3-ingredient peppermint chocolate covered Oreos. Classic Oreo cookies combine with melted white or dark chocolate and minty crushed candy canes for a festive and decadent, no-bake holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 24 OREO cookies
  • 10 oz white chocolate ¹
  • 10 oz semisweet chocolate ²
  • 2 candy canes, crushed
  • optional: 2 tsp coconut oil or vegetable shortening

Instructions

  1. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or wax paper. Set aside.
  2. Melt the chocolate and coconut oil (if using) together in either a double-boiler over gently simmering water, or in a heat-proof glass bowl in the microwave. If using a microwave, heat in bursts of 30 seconds on medium power, stirring well and scraping down the sides of the bowl with a spatula after each increment, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  3. For easiest coverage, pour the melted chocolate into a small and relatively deep bowl. Dip each Oreo cookie in the melted chocolate, one at a time, using two forks or a candy dipping tool to roll until evenly coated.
  4. Let the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl, then transfer the chocolate-covered cookies to the prepared pan. Work in batches until all cookies are coated.
  5. Sprinkle the tops with crushed peppermint, or drizzle with additional melted chocolate, as desired.
  6. Let sit for 20 mins, or until firm and set. Enjoy!!

Notes

  • ¹ Alternatively, you may substitute 10 oz vanilla candy melts for the white baking chocolate. Melt as directed on the package, stir in 2 tsp melted coconut oil or all-vegetable shortening until smooth.
  • ² I like to use bittersweet chocolate (60-70% cacao), but any chocolate will work. You can also substitute 10oz chocolate melting wafers (such as Ghiradelli), for easy “tempered” chocolate that stays shiny for longer.
  • Will keep for several days, covered at room-temperature.
