Boone County Joint Communications says it stopped receiving 9-1-1 and 3-1-1 non-emergency calls Tuesday due to a phone service disruption.
BCJC stopped receiving calls around 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release. In these cases, 9-1-1 calls were rerouted to the Jefferson City Police Department. Non-emergency calls were rerouted to a set of numbers reserved for such situations.
BCJC's provider, Brightspeed, notified the department that the source of the interruption was a fiber cut in the area, according to a news release. BCJC said the issue remained monitored until Brightspeed crews could respond to the scene and restore the fiber connections.
BCJC staff responded to assist at the Jefferson City Police Department until systems returned to normal around midnight, the release said.
In a Facebook post, Ashland Police Chief Scott Young said he spoke to a citizen who "absolutely needed a police response and did not get one," on Tuesday. Young said the Ashland Police Department plans to follow up on that case.
In case of future disruptions, citizens experiencing an emergency and are unable to reach 9-1-1 should go to the nearest fire station, police department or hospital, BCJC said.
