Who doesn’t love a recipe that tastes incredible and makes your house smell amazing at the same time?

Remember that old realtor trick of baking cookies right before a showing? Well, this easy Cinnamon Apple recipe is one of those “taste so good while also making your house smell amazing” recipes that you have to try. It’s the perfect combination of Fall, Winter, and the holiday seasons that makes you feel happy.

Amazing Stovetop Cinnamon Apple Recipe (4)

When it comes to desserts, I’m usually a cheesecake or fudge kinda girl, but every so often, I get the craving for something different.

Truth be told, I had initially planned on making this cinnamon apple recipe in my pressure cooker, but unfortunately, that ended up being a no-go as I could not get the recipe to come to pressure in my Instant Pot. So I decided to go back to my trusty Dutch oven and cook them on the stovetop.

I believe cooking apples on the stovetop is better anyway because you can keep an eye on them and get the perfect fork-tender consistency. (I love this Dutch oven, but the red does not go with the decor in my future kitchen. Luckily, they are fairly inexpensive, and I just ordered this turquoise set!!)

Why You Need to Make this Cinnamon Apple Recipe:

And I know I’ve already said it once…but I’m going to say it again:

These cinnamon apples are absolutely amazing! They taste like warm and buttery cinnamon apple pie filling. Add a scoop or 2 of Vanilla Ice cream; you’llbe in cinnamon apple vanilla ice cream heaven, I promise! It’s like this recipe was made for everything Fall and holiday.

First, let me assure you that this recipe is crazy easy. The part that takes the longest will be if you decide to peel the apples on your own. Since we’re coming into the peak of apple season, I was able to find apples at the grocery store that were already peeled and sliced. Hooray- huge timesaver!

I do own a Pampered Chef Apple Peeler Corer Slicer. If you have one of these amazing little tools, it does make quick work of the apples. But, if I were to use it for this recipe, I would only use it to peel and core the apples since I feel the slices it produces are too thin for this recipe. (The danger of apples being sliced too thin is that they might become too mushy.)

Ingredients Needed

Want to give this stovetop cinnamon apple recipe a shot? Be sure to add these ingredients to your shopping list:

  • 9 to 12 med apples or 48 oz of peeled and thickly sliced apples
  • Cinnamon
  • Apple pie spice
  • Brown sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • Salted butter

How to Make Cinnamon Apples on the Stovetop.

(scroll to the bottom for the full printable recipe.)

Making the cinnamon apples on the stovetop is really easy; you need about 35 to 40 minutes (not including the time it takes to peel the apples.)

  • Prep the apples: Mix the cinnamon, pie spice, brown sugar, and cornstarch together. Add the spice mixture, butter, and water to the peeled and sliced apples, tossing till the apples are coated.
  • Cook: Cook the apples over medium heat for about 20 minutes OR until the apples are fork-tender and the sauce has thickened. I recommend to start checking the apples at the 15-minute mark for desired tenderness.

Tip: This recipe makes a lot and can be easily divided in half. If you make a smaller amount, start checking the apples for doneness around the 8 to 10-minute mark.

Is this Cinnamon Apple Recipe Healthy?

Well, the old saying is, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” But with as much sugar as there is in this recipe and serving it with vanilla ice cream is definitely not the healthy way to eat apples. I’ve made this recipe a time or two and have subbed the brown sugar with half Splenda Brown Sugar Baking Blend and half Surkin Gold to make it almost sugar-free. (the Splenda brown sugar blend still has some sugar in it.) Eat the cinnamon apples without a topping or serve with yogurt, and it will be a lot healthier.

What to do with Cinnamon Apples.

This recipe makes a lot of apples, so unless you are serving a big group, you will have leftovers. The cinnamon apples are perfect with Ice cream, oatmeal, yogurt, pancakes (they would be awesome on this puff pancake recipe), or baked into a pie! Another awesome way to serve the apples is with a homemade Angel Food Cake Recipe and a dollop of whipped cream.
